Everyone talks about Planking but the rules of the game (the Planking-Rules) aren’t very well known. We’re not going to give you a planking lecture, simply show you a few examples so that you can see what Planking isn’t. (And when I say it’s not, it’s NOT.)

For Planking, it’s important to have good posture as well as physical strength. Without good posture, you’re already compromising your Planking attempts. So take note: no physical strength, no Planking! Get back to your press-ups and sit-ups! Your body must be well balanced and have a clear centre of gravity. A decent six-pack’s not a bad idea either.

In Planking, it’s not just your body which needs to be in a good position. Your arms must also be pressed against your body. The arms in this photo unfortunately disappear into the roses. The face too, in Planking, should be looking downwards so that the body is in a perfect line from head to toe. This photo has been taken at a bad angle! Half the body is hidden so even if the Planking effect was 100%, it would be pointless because you can’t see it… What a waste!

Don’t confuse Planking with relaxed sun bathing or a post-lunch snooze. Planking positions lying on your back do not count! So, dear Planking-friend, keep your cameras in your bags and wait until it’s really worth it before taking a photo!

How does Planking work?

Planking is simple, uncomplicated and above all fun. First choose a good spot which you think is interesting and where you think it’s worth taking a picture of you whilst Planking. Lie face down on the ground with your legs straight out and your arms at your side against your body. Once you’re in this position get a friend to take a photo of you.

You could also take your own picture using a digital camera with a self timer. Then simply upload your photo to the Planking community on Plankinglove.com in order to take your first step towards becoming a Planking star!

Be creative in your Planking images and look for places and situations which are unusual.
